Who Are We?

Quick Announcement: If you would like a chance to win a free autographed copy of my adventure/suspense novel, click here!

Hi. I’m Andrew, the author of this blog.

I’ve been married to my lovely wife Sarabeth for almost five years, and we are in the process of becoming foster parents, and we want to share that process through this blog. We want to name our first adopted son James, hence the title of this blog.

But there’s a lot of down-time when waiting for approval to be foster parents, so I blog about almost everything else under the sun.

I hope you learn a few things from this site. Get inspired. Laugh. Cry. Also, be sure to check out my suspense/adventure novel, The Man in the Box. It’s available in paperback or as an e-book wherever books are sold online. (It currently has 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon, and with your help, I’m trying to get it to be a bestseller.)

And be one of the first to like my facebook page to keep up with developments for my newest book, Our Life Captured, a YA novel about a guy and girl chosen to meet and fall in love while a film crew follows them for a nationally-aired reality show.

Also, if you are a publisher or writer, please consider me as your editor. Click here for more information.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

  8. lisa4tea says:

First of all let me say thank you for following me and your blog is amazing. I too have been touched my adoption. Thanks to a very unselfish couple who made the decision to give up their baby because they were too young to be parents…I have an older brother. He was eleven days old when my parents brought him home from the hospital, I arrived two years later and my sister arrived two years after me. Although my mom was able to conceive my sister and I naturally, my parent’s family doctor had told my mom that she couldn’t conceive so they applied to adopt a baby and got my brother. I will pray that God brings you a child, maybe two, and that he will be as much a blessing to your family as my brother is to mine.

  23. Thanks for following poemsandponderings.wordpress.com. I truly hope you will enjoy the experience and I pray that you are successful in your quest..This country needs more people who are willing and able to adopt children, as we seem to have so many, who are willing and able to make them but not willing and able to take the responsibitly for their actions.

Hi Andrew and Sarabeth thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I will certainly follow up on what’s going on in your lives so far as your adoption program is on going, I know one thing for sure my friend that the desire to adopt James is a desire the Lord has placed in your heart, isn’t He wonderful, He first places the desire and then He brings it to pass. I am in agreement with your prayer for James, if you want a boy the Lord will see to it.I will pass your blog site on to others I know and I trust that they will be able to encourage you in your walk. Have a blessed day and remember “all things are possible to him who believes”. Thanks once again, all the best from Sunny South Africa.

  33. Thank you for dropping by my blog, Subject to Change. May the Lord grant you the desires of your heart.

  34. Thanks for following my blog. My Mum was adopted as a baby and had a wonderful experience, her brothers and sisters were not so fortunate and spent a great deal of time in children’s homes in the 1940s and 1950s in the UK. Good luck in finding James, it’s an amazing thing you are doing.

  37. Hi,
Your story sounds familiar to mine. My husband and I was looking forward to adoptin 21 years ago and God brought it to pass. Our son is now 20 years old and in his 3rd year in college.

I can relate to your excitment and anxiety on the issue.

Adopting our son has been the greatest things, 2nd to Jesus that we have done.

God bless you and your family.

    Debra

  39. Hey folks!

I just noticed you started following my blog, so I came to check you out. I like your blog! This was my first stop, so I haven’t had a chance to explore too much… yet. I wanted to ask you something. I understand if you don’t want to answer. What is your motivation behind adoption? Is it something you WANT to do, or is out of necessity because you cannot have children? Sorry if I’m getting too personal too soon, but I’m just curious. When I’m not at work and I have a little more time, I’ll leave you a little bio on me and my family! Thanks for following my blog. It’s part of a nonprofit grant writing company that I’m trying to start (http://www.grantpros.org). We really are in our infant stage, but I’m having an awesome time with it nonetheless! Talk to you soon!

  40. Thank you so much for following me! I wish you both all the best in your adoption process…may God bless you along this path~

  43. MW says:

Thanks for following Blue Stone City. I actually have a post lined up to be published in the next few weeks entitled ‘Adoption’, so I hope you enjoy it. I was also mulling over the concept this morning of God’s bias for working through barren women, and thinking that perhaps He feels the same longing to fill His household with children…perhaps that will be another post. Blessings! Miriam

  44. Sandy Sue says:

Sarabeth and Andrew, Thanks so much for visiting my site and deciding to follow along. Much love and learning on your journey.

  53. Thank you so much for reading my post and choosing to follow me. I am flattered! I also thank you for leading me to yours which I have also chosen to follow.
You have directed my attention to another aspect of life that prospective parents deal with. I am the mother of two biological children who can empathize with the suspense. Let’s just say it was not easy since I was already advanced in age when I conceived my first child. You appear to be on the right track with God at the helm of things. I believe the journey you make towards your goal is as significant as reaching the goal itself. You are bringing kind and sensitive people together in your quest to make James a substantial reality of your life…and that’s worth a whole lot!
I look forward to further interactions with you.
    God bless you,
    Madona

Hi, I’ve only browsed over your blog, you are adopting, so am I. Actually, our son will be moving in with us in about a month. Don’t know how it’s going for you, but I wish you both the best of luck.

  78. vickielcouch says:

Thank you for visiting my blog. My husband adopted our oldest when we got married. It has been a great experience watching our son grow into manhood knowing he was chosen. It has eased his pain at being so easily discarded by his earthly father. Blessing on you and your growing family.

  79. Hi and thank you for following my blog. I’m walking a different spiritual path than you, but I think our paths just crossed and I HAD to respond. I don’t always post about my son, my blog is about developing my writing skills and writing about what’s in my head at any given moment. Sometimes it funny, sometimes it’s about politics, or music. Sometimes it’s a bit off color. And sometimes it about my son. Many times I have thought about writing one specific story but it never was the “right time” for me. Coming to your blog has shown me its now the time to tell how my husband and I adopted our son. It’s a pretty unique and absolutely AMAZING adoption story, and if it helps you and your wife find your child then I am happy to share. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a secret or anything, everyone who knows us knows that our son is adopted. I just haven’t blogged about it yet.
I truly hope and pray that your prayers are answered soon and that soon you will be blogging about the blessed and crazy state of parenthood!

  80. Victor Ho says:

  89. Hello there, Thanks for following me. I look forward to reading your blogs, I wish you all the best in adopting your first child. I and a new blogger and I blog about different things going on in my life. I especially write about fitness and faith which are very important to me. I’m doing lots of different fitness challenges right now as well as a faith challenge, The Bible in 90 Days! As you probably saw on my blog I finished day 53. I’ve tried this challenge a few times before and this is the furthest I’ve ever gotten on this challenge, I’m really excited about that! I’ve read the whole Bible once before following a year reading plan. Great to meet you, I look forward to reading your blogs and I hope you enjoy reading mine!

Also, Robert Alter has done a great job of translating ‘The Five Books of Moses’, ‘The Wisdom Books’ and ‘Psalms’ from the original archaic texts into modern english. In his translation notes he discusses Hemmingway & english poets next to details about the old greek & hebrew. Interesting stuff & beautiful too. Cheers!

  109. Hello Andrew and Sarabeth,
Thank you very much for following http://tnlighthouse.wordpress.com and we look forward to reading your posts as well. Really enjoyed “The Horror’s of Christian Theory Part I.”

BTW: My dear Hubby and me: Alameda -> Oakland-> Tennessee-> The Office->Sean Connery 007 Movies – NCIS – Sewing – Gardening and…wait for it…Sweet Tea!

And when “James or Jane” arrives… you’ve gotta read and ‘act out’ all the parts to David and Goliath… Our five loved that.
Rev. Corliss Acosta – The Lightkeeper
    (just call me Corliss)
From Upper Cumberlands Tennessee-“Where the hills kiss the sky”
(not joking-that’s really the Town slogan…was there an Oakland, California town slogan? No, not so much).

  115. a quiet person says:

What a fantastic idea for widening your exposure. Jeremiah 29:11-13. May God bless your endeavours as a loving family with many hopes and dreams!

  116. Andrew and Sarabeth,

I find your blog to be a beautiful journey to find “James.” And I will be praying for James’ quick arrival.

Andrew, you most certainly have a gift for writing, and it shows that you come alive when you are doing so. And it’s heart-warming to see you use your passion in order to bring you and Sarabeth a child – a child who will desperately need the unconditional love that you both have in your hearts.

I also want to thank you for finding interest in my blog. As you can see, I am someone who finds great happiness in seeing others live with passion. I would love to see more people living, loving, and working with true passion. I find that to be lacking in our society, which is so disheartening to me.

You and Sarabeth are a great inspiration and role model of living with purpose and passion.

And I must congratulate you, Andrew, on your most recent update regarding your book!

Wishing you both all the very best!

  117. Stef says:

Some of the most interesting interfaith discussions I’ve had have been with other Christians though, so I hope we’ll be able to learn from one another, despite our different choices in gods ;] Feel free to email me if you have any questions at awakeninlight@yahoo.com

Trying one more time to post a comment… They say 3rd time is a charm.

  264. Beth Johnson says:

OK, that worked, so now let me say what I started to say earlier. We are parents to five; that’s right, 5 children, and two are adopted. Muliebral Studies (about marriage, divorce and remarriage) is my blog. Eventually I hope to add more family oriented things there.

Let me give you a little bit of our experience with the youngest adopted son we named Matthew, which means gift of God.

    http://tinyurl.com/mt5bmfw

We adopted Matthew when he was 6 months old and I knew I was expecting the baby girl just about the time he would be a year old. You can see the photo of the two of them together.

Give the quilt photo time to load and the magnifier software should work nicely.

  265. Thank you for following my blog. You might find my upcoming re-release of my novel, Good Intentions, interesting. It is about a girl who is adopted. Meanwhile, lots of luck on your adoption journey.

  266. Thanks for the follow :) I’ll keep your ministry in mind and share it to couples whom I know can be blessed with your story.

At 28, I have a 9 year old, 5 year old and a 4 year old. They’re all boys, so they’re quite a handful. But it’s great experience. So, I wish you all the best with the whole process – so, one day, you can also feel how great it is to be a dad/mom (just like me and my hubby).

Just wanted to share this link – http://www.crowdsourcing.org/document/-krowdkidz-launches-crowdfunding-community-for-infertility-surrogacy-and-adoption/25665 … You might find this information useful.

  290. bretagnebko says:

    Your blog made me smile.

  291. Elaine says:

Thanks for visiting and following my blog; I’ll be keeping an eye on yours for several reasons. First, because I know something of the journey you’re on as you wait to adopt. And I will wait to celebrate with you!
Second, I was happy to see that you do proofreading and editing. I am a freelance writer and editor myself, but I will soon need to hire someone to edit my own book and, frankly, I’d love to work with someone in the blogging community whose perspective is similar to mine.
I’m glad you found me, so that I could find you.

  292. vonhonnauldt says:

Thanks for the follow of nightlightblogdotcom. Read your post on “the great thing about abortion.” It reminded me of a comment Sally Field made about her playing the part of a pro-life activist and how she was unable to understand or identify with that mindset. Anymore than you could with the pro-choice people. They’re just too far apart.

  293. Sangeeta says:

Thats a wonderful feeling to adopt someone and give them a life. I have several friends who have adopted in the last few years and have been blessed to be a part of their journey.

I’m so pleased that you’re following my blog on writing books for children! When James comes, or in preparation for him, you may want to check out
    grandmastreasures.wordpress.com
I chronicle the adventures of Tommy (six) and Tina (seven) since their dramatic arrivals into this world, and share spiritual insights as well as humour.

  299. Thank you for the follow. Very interesting journey you’ve had so far. I’ve had a friend who went through the adoption process (even though this is fostering) and it can be quite an experience going through the paperwork etc let alone the actual impact on your lives as suddenly ‘James’ will be there, a part of who you are, and the love, happiness and trials that being a foster parent means. Good luck and I hope it will be the journey you pray for. :)

  300. arvinbadiola says:

Hey, thanks for following. Glad to know you liked my blog enough to follow it. I see you’re an editor. I’ve always wanted to write a book but I haven’t stumbled upon the right ideas yet. I commend you for adopting the child, James. My daughter-in-law was adopted, as was her sister and it turned out real well. I have a great daughter-in-law. My wife and myself have three children, now grown and we took in for the summer two children from Nicaragua. I blogged about it and if you get chance I would be honored if you read that blog. It takes a lot of getting use to but love is a special gift. It is obvious that you two have that commodity.

  306. Thanks for dropping by and following “Honey.” Good luck with your adoption.

  317. Andrew and Sarabeth, first off thanks for following my blog. And secondly, your lives are in my prayers as you approach fostering and adopting a child. Nothing is more honorable than parenting. After all, look what our Heavenly Father took on? Us!

  318. Thank you for dropping by and following my blog. I wish you every luck in fostering and I hope the wait will not be too long. No child should have to wait when a family is ready to welcome and love him or her. A friend of mine has adopted two boys. It took time but she now has the family she dreamt off with her husband. Good luck

Hello Andrew and Sarabeth! Best of luck on the fostering and adoption of James! Thanks for visiting and following my blog. I only had a moment to flit by, but read your post on writing and I totally agree on the overstaying part. Somethings can be too short for my liking and isn’t that the hope and dream of a writer? To have people wanting more! But I gave up Stephen King many years ago for the same reason you mention, I got bored. I’m sure he’s come out with some good reads since I lost interest but I just can’t seem to bring myself to… well, the motivation isn’t there even though I purchased an Audible book of his – even having it narrated to me fell short. I’ll have to check out your books, I love reading when I have a moment.

  327. David says:

You both have renewed my faith in this modern world…A world unthinkable when I was your age…Now, at seventy-one two people named Andrew and Sarabeth are introduced; And for that plus following my blog I am grateful..I have one published mini-novel “Raid on Doberman Castle” included in “America’s Finest Short Fiction” (Barnes & Noble)…Two new works have been accepted for publication; “John has a Church Nearby & Officer Finley”…God Bless: David

Thank you for responding to my blog. Am fascinated by yours and will enjoy following it. I marvel at the universe’s serendipity – my novel is set in the 60’s, the main story a woman coming to terms with grief but what would be interesting for you is the sub story of unmarried mothers and ‘encouraged’ adoption in that era. Its an e book. I will google yours today. Joyful parenting to you both when the time comes. x

I am married and I love kids though I am not really dying to have one. I came across your blog and it just touched my heart for some reasons. Sending my love from Japan.

  343. I have been here and have done this twice. I admire anyone that takes on the adventure and the challenge of adoption. It is not for the faint of heart. I have often likened it to an ‘emotional roller coaster’.
Everyone’s journey is different: so try not to be discouraged when you hear the negative and stay strong when you feel as if: ‘you can not bear one more day of waiting.’

  344. Paula Perry says:

hi, thanks for following my blog, touch of home. as an adult adoptee who is searching for her birth mother. please leave that option open for your adopted child w/ mother or father’s consent. this does not mean your child does not love you. i can tell you first hand, it feels like a piece of you is missing when you don’t know who your mother or father is. and that line, you’re better off not knowing, does not help! thanks

As for adopting James…My husband maintains properties that house children waiting for foster parents. Actually many programs, not just fostering. It is a long process, keep the faith and patience. These kids need a stable environment and a loving family. Even if it’s brief, it leaves an impact.

  398. Sarabeth and Andrew (and eventual James): thank you for swinging by my blog today and choosing to follow it. I am an unpredictable blogger and just when I was getting back in the swing of things from a crazy summer, my mother passed quite unexpectedly, so I’m mostly just writing right now, about my grieving, not visiting too many other blogs, but I feel the fog is lifting a little and I hope to swing back by here in the near future. Hello Andrew,

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

What a wonderful adventure and journey for you and Sarabeth.

I have known dear friends who have walked in your shoes (so to speak) regarding foster parenting. Their walks were different. However, they were the same in regards to the blessings, rewards, and even the challenges which tugged on their hearts when it was time to let go and place the children back into the loving arms of the Lord as He sent them out from their homes.

I pray there are many, many more blessings and rewards for both of you as you walk in trust.

    God bless you!

  506. jjhiii24 says:

Your blog reveals a giving and caring soul at the heart of your life, and a creative and open spirit as one of the foundational elements of your writing. This indicates that your prospects for both adoption and for publication are very promising. As someone who raised six children to adulthood, I can say with confidence that you and Sarabeth will be pretty great as parents to whoever arrives into your lives, no matter how you come by them.

Your writing is solid and insightful, and your generosity and diversity of subject matter have a fairly wide appeal to your readers. This is a very fine place to visit!

I am a little curious about your interest in my blog, as it seems quite different than yours in many ways, with a much narrower focus and breadth of subject matter. I’m very glad you decided to follow my efforts, and will be following your adoption journey with great interest.

There is no need to worry about parenthood. Children have a way of teaching you fairly quickly what to do and what not to do, and hopefully, you have some experienced relatives to call on if you get to the point where you think you might need advice. The old saying is really true, that the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother. When you act out of genuine love, you really can’t go too far wrong.

Thank you so much for your attention to my writing. You seem like pretty busy people now, and when you start a family it gets even busier, but it’s the best job in the whole world.

    Warm regards…..John H.

Thanks for following my blog, and I hope with the fire of a thousand suns that your adoption goes through. I think it is the most beautiful thing one can do for a child without parents and I hope it will work out well for you. James will be so very happy to have you!

  519. Hey Andrew, Thanks for following my blog! Good luck with your adoption process too.

I notice that you’re reading “Into the Arms of Strangers”. The story of the kindertransport has fascinated me for a long time now, though it’s not particularly well known, even in this country. One of my early attempts at screenwriting was with a story about a girl, who comes to Britain as a refugee just before the war and then attempts to find and reunite her family afterwards. As part of my research, I interviewed some now very old people who came to this country on the kindertransport, and I have to say their stories were remarkable and incredibly moving. How absolutely heartbreaking it must have been as parent, to put your small child onto a train knowing they would be taken hundreds of miles away over hostile territory and handed over to complete strangers to be raised. However, most of the kinder did survive the war as a result (a third of the Jewish kids that survived the Holocaust did so as a result of the kindertransport) and went on to greatly enrich the life of this country. Many of the older ones joined the allied forces as “His Majesty’s most loyal enemy aliens” and helped defeat the Nazis, their language skills being a highly useful resource. Anyway, I’d love to hear your views on the book!

  520. winterbayne says:

I am in the process of “adopting” my niece. A completely different (I would assume) process than adopting a baby from foster care. To be honest, it scares the hell out of me :) I’ve known other couples who adopted children though. The wait is more than worth it from my observations. I do wish you the best of luck and may the time fly by during your wait.

Thanks so much for following my blog! I have an adopted brother who is 14 years younger than me. I forget that he is adopted when we talk about family traits that he couldn’t possibly have inherited. One of us says that his children got red in her hair because my mom had reddish hair when she was young. A pause, and then, “oh, yeah…. He couldn’t have gotten that gene from her!” They become “yours” in EVERY sense of the word. God bless you with the one that “belongs” to you both!

  580. Thanks for following! I’m inspired by your story and am looking forward to reading about your journey. All the best!

  592. Bonnie Brown says:

Hi! Thanks for following my blog. I’ve had a look through your blog and there is some great stuff here! I really love your posts about adoption. I’ve always said if I was to have kids I’d adopt. It seems so logical. There are so many kids out there who need parents already, why not be their parent? I believe that the love you can have for another regardless of blood can be so strong and so amazingly special. You have helped another in the deepest way possible, and in return I think you get an amazing connect. One that is about love and respect and loyalty and kindness. Anyway, I love that you are spreading your story, I hope it inspires more people to adopt rather than conceive. =]

  593. Thanks for reading my blog! Good luck to you and your family. Parenthood is one of the best and hardest things in life. Thanks again.

  594. Thanks for the follow! 😊

Thank you for following my blog. I know I’m going to enjoy your site as I’m interested in fostering and adoption, my daughter’s called Sarah, i like the name ‘James’ and Daschunds are my favourite dog! So, I’ve many reasons to follow you back and I’m gonna do just that after I’ve sent this. See you round the corner.

Thanks for reading http://wannabedeenbuddy.wordpress.com – parenthood is amazing and a trust over God’s creation which we sometimes forget in the heated exchanges between parent and child and sibling and sibling, but always something for which to be grateful.

Would love to know what brought you to my blog!

  614. Hi!
I’m writing to you today to see if you would be interested in participating in a blog tour. The subject is “Why I Write.” I got my invitation from Lori Schafer; you can read her post here as a sample: http://lorilschafer.com/2014/09/08/why-i-write/ It’s good exposure, of course, and a nice way for people to get to know the writerly side of you. You are one of my favorite writers on WordPress. If you’re interested, I would need a bio to post about you for my site. Within two to three weeks after I do my post, you would post your “Why I Write” essay and the bios of three authors you’ve invited to participate in turn. I plan on posting mine the first of next week, probably Monday or Tuesday. The other thing I would need from you for this is once I post my “Why I Write” post, you reblog it on your blog or have a link from you blog to mine.

I would appreciate it if you would let me know one way or the other. Hope you’re having a great week!

    Thank you!
    Penny

  615. I wish you all the best with your adoption and thanks for following my blog :)
