NaNo Day 1 – Please Write Responsibly
November 1, 2012 13 Comments
Today is the first day of NaNo! I hope your Halloween was safe and your kids brought home lots of candy.
If you scroll down the page a little, you’ll notice on the right sidebar that I have added a place for you to post your developing NaNo projects for readers to look through. Please note that I reserve the right to delete or ban any projects that are not suitable for audiences under 13, or that I just don’t find meets the basic moral code
May your protagonists be men/women of outstanding citizenship or be condemned for breaking the moral laws, thus convicting your readers of said crimes. May your stories inspire hope and truth set in a spiritually and physically war-torn world. May good conquer evil, and may justice prevail. May vulgarity be used sparingly, violence be only necessary, and fornication banned or condemned, and may your readers be shielded by the inappropriate lusts of human thoughts and their bedrooms.
As a writer, you have the freedom to express yourself and tell stories that people will never forget. Don’t abuse that trust and refrain from perverting that freedom. Write responsibly, honestly, and wisely. Be shrewd with your words, compassionate with your teachings, and push your characters’ endurance past their limits to inspire your readers to press on when things get rough.
Don’t forget to feel free to post your developing stories on the right! Good luck NaNo-ers!
I’ve enterted and I wish everyone who has the best of luck and enjoy the whole process. My idea for a novel is this mad old man, right, and he’s so old everyone thinks he’s not a good fisherman. This old man, right, he goes out deep fishing in the sea and catches this massive ruddy great big fish and, as he’s bringing it back to land (he’s too old to lift it onto his boat, you see) it gets eaten. It’s about ageing, existential dismay, the beauty and brutality of nature – I call it The Old Man and the Ocean (please not, this is in no way inspired by Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea).
awesome. just started something myself …

Wonderful! Feel free to share your progress with us with the link on your right. It might be helpful to have people encouraging you along the way.
I just entered my link to your list. My novel is The Long Road. It follows the tumultuous travels of a young woman named Haley who is trying her best to flee from a tremendous mistake she has made in the recent past. In the spirit of old, black and white Twilight Zone episodes, we’ll wait and see if she comes out on the other side.
Sounds fun! Thanks!
Thanks for calling by and reading, I thought I would return the compliment. Looks like you have something interesting going on here, I’ll have to investigate some more. I never write about such things as mentioned above, too much like real life
Please do!
Reblogged this on Kith and Kin : The Sisters Grinn and commented:
I reached 1848 words without trying too hard! I am very proud of myself. Hopefully the rest of the month goes this way.
I love your guidelines for writing, definitely applicable year ’round. I always come to November and find myself up to my eyebrows in some other project, and tell myself, “Next year.” Alas, this year is no exception. Still, it’s nice to find a place dedicated to encouraging and sharing work.
Thanks! Better luck for next year, then, right?
I am doing off-road nano
A book about a family recovering from a terrible crime through storytelling
Sounds interesting.
My sister and I both entered this year. Last night we raced to see who could reach the word count goal first! Loads of fun.
It is titled the Survivors, but I think it is going to be getting a new one. So I’d tell you more about it but I’m not even sure.
My story is about a group of teens. I know what the plan was when I first wrote about them several years ago but know I’m watching the story change and tweak. Hopefully into something better because when I first worked on this… it was a disaster. So I have a plan of sorts but I’m letting the story lead the way.
